“The Archbishopric of Cusco asks the parishioners in general to be alert and not be surprised by pseudo Catholics that in recent months are calling masses in houses and sacraments via WhatsApp,” says the text.
The groups referred to are two: the San Pío X priestly fraternity (FSSPX) and the barefoot carmelites of San José of the Apostolic Vetero Church in America.
The archbishopric states that “these groups are not in communion with the Catholic Church or with Pope Francis Successor of Pedro.”
The San Pío X priestly fraternity (FSSPX – Lefebvristas), is a traditionalist group that is not in full communion with the Catholic Church and has an irregular canonical status.
In September 2023, the bishops of Panama pointed out that the FSSPX “is not in full communion with the Catholic Church, so the Catholic faithful must refrain from attending their cults.”
In July 2024, the barefoot Carmelites of Peru had already warned about the second group that the archbishopric of Cusco refers, then specifying that “these brothers who present themselves as barefoot carmelites, have nothing to do with the order founded by Santa Teresa de Jesus in 1568, in addition they are not in communion with the Catholic Church, since members of the Apostolic Vetero Church are said. ”
In that sense, the barefoot Carmelites in Peru asked the faithful to “not be surprised and be attentive to possible fraudulent requests, documents, that they can emanate falsehood in the sacraments they can celebrate, that they are far from the thinking of us the barefoot Carmelites and of the Catholic church”.
