Mons. Francisco Moreno Barrón, Archbishop of Tijuana, on the northern border, informed that the cancer he suffers has advanced, so he will undergo a therapy with “more aggressive” effects. At the same time, the prelate was entrusted to the hands of God, the protection of the Virgin Mary and “the fervent prayer of the Church.”
In a communication Extended on Sunday, August 24, Mons. Moreno Barrón said that “in the light of faith, I recognize that God has been carrying out his plan of love and salvation about me throughout my life and in the health/disease process that I am living.”

The Archbishop of Tijuana faces a lung cancer since 2022. In his recent statement, he remembers that in these three years of illness “I was surgically intervened twice and I have taken four treatments against cancer.”
This is “malignant cancer called Epitelioid Mesotelioma, due to contact with asbestos. It is rare and very elusive cancer,” he said.
In the tomographs carried out after each treatment to which it was submitted, he said, “an increase in cancer has been increased, including the last PET-CT of July 31 of this year, which revealed” that the disease has begun to invade the right lung. “
The prelate shared that “the effects and sequelae of surgeries and treatments have been very varied and the experiment inwardly; however, my physical state remains functional, to the point that the disease is not so evident to the outside, except for some manifestations that do not escape the eyes and the heart of those who know me and observe more closely.”
Its new treatment will begin on Wednesday, August 27 at the National Cancer Institute (INCAN) in Mexico City. It is an intravenous immunotherapy and a medication that will take orally. His return to Tijuana is scheduled for Friday, August 29.
The prelate expects this treatment to present “favorable” results, but acknowledged that its effects “will be more aggressive.”
At the end of his message, the Archbishop of Tijuana wrote: “Assuming my responsibility in the care of my health, I remain confident in the paternal hands of my father God, in the maternal care of the Virgin Mary, in the intercession of the saints and the fervent prayer of the Church.”
“I offer my little sufferings for their material and spiritual needs,” he said.
