The Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba, Bishop Dionisio Guillermo García, raised his prayers before the Virgin of Charity of Cobre on Palm Sunday, imploring for the needs of the people, hoping that they find freedom and the “light” of faith in amidst adversity.
“Our people have said and repeat, and we all know that: current and food. Is that unattainable? Is that asking too much? No no no. Our people also ask for freedom. “So that everyone can make their life project, and ensure that their children reach the maximum,” stated on March 24 in an atmosphere of silence, from the emblematic National Sanctuary Basilica of Our Lady of Charity of Cobre.
The prelate’s request took place a week after, in several cities in Cuba, crowds took to the streets to demand a change in the system, due to the continuous power outages and food shortages on the island, which has lived under a dictatorship for more than 60 years.
