He canon 908 of the Code of Canon Law prohibits “Catholic priests to concelebrate the Eucharist with priests or ministers of churches or ecclesial communities that are not in full communion with the Catholic Church.”
“Catholic ministers manage the sacraments lcitously only to the faithful Catholics, who, in turn, only receive them llycitally from Catholic ministers,” says the canon 844.
The Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Chapecó, Mons. Odelir José Magri, McCJ, who spoke of the ecumenical meaning of the presence of the religious authorities in the celebration. He mentioned the presence of the IEAB minister, showing her on the altar, and the church shepherd Renewwho was sitting in the second bank of the temple along with the other faithful.
In the celebration, Fr. François Cristiano Cousseau, Chancellor of the Archdiocese, read the Decree of the Pope about the creation of the Archdiocese of Chapecó and the appointment of Mons. Odelir José Magri.
Kneed before the altar, Mons. Odelir professed his faith and reaffirmed his belief in the truths of the Word of God and the teachings of the Church. He also made the oath of fidelity, committing to maintain communion with the Catholic Church, preserve the integrity of faith and promote ecclesiastical discipline.
The Mass was concelebrated by around 80 priests and seven bishops of the state of Santa Catarina: the bishop of Caçador, Mons. Cleocir Bonetti; The Bishop of Lages, Mons. Guilherme Werlang MSF; the bishop of Joaçaba, Mons. Mário Marquez Ofmcap; the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Florianopolis, Mons. Onécimo Alberton; the bishop of Río Do Sul, Mons. Adalberto Donadelli Junior; and the archbishop of Joinville, Mons. Francisco Carlos Bach.
The Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil in the West of Santa Catarina and Alto Uruguai Gaúcho published a statement congratulating the “Archdiocese of Chapecó for your elevation and you, dominate, for your appointment as archbishop” and reaffirmed his desire to “walk elbow to elbow in the mission of Christ, always seeking unity in faith and in service to others. ”
