In his reflection before the Angelus prayer in the Plaza de San Pedro in the Vatican and Journal of the Gospel today (Lk 2,22-40) at the feast of the presentation of the Lord, the Holy Father stressed that “in old age From Simeon and Ana, the novelty that changes the history of the world is produced ”with the presence of Jesus.

These elders contemplate the Child Jesus, taken to the temple by San José and the Virgin Mary, as was the custom after 40 days after birth. And Simeon, said the Pope, calls Jesus in three ways: “Jesus is salvation; Jesus is Luz; Jesus is a sign of contradiction. ”
The old man sees the child and affirms: “My eyes have seen your salvation, prepared by you before all peoples”, because “in Jesus he lives all the fullness of God.” Simeon also says that Jesus is “light to enlighten the nations”, a light that will redeem the world “of darkness of evil, pain and death.”
Jesus is also a sign of contradiction “so that the thoughts of many hearts are revealed.” In that sense, the Pope highlighted, “Jesus reveals the criterion to judge all history and his drama, and also the life of each one of us. And what is the criterion? The love, the one who loves lives, the one who hates dies. ”
To conclude, the Holy Father encouraged these questions: “I, what do I expect from my life? What is my great hope? Does my heart long to see the Lord’s face? Wait for the manifestation of your salvation plan for humanity?
“Let’s pray together, our Purísima Mother, to accompany us through the lights and shadows of history, to always accompany us to meet the Lord,” concluded Pope Francis.
