Angelina Jolie he told the magazine Wall Street Journal who probably wouldn’t become an actress if she was just starting out in the industry in 2023. Maybe she would consider acting on stage, but certainly not a life and career in Hollywood.
“I wouldn’t be an actress today,” the Oscar winner said. “When I started, I didn’t have so many expectations of being so public, sharing so much.”
Being under intense public scrutiny for more than two decades has apparently taken its toll on Jolie, who became an even bigger tabloid target after divorcing Brad Pitt seven years ago now. The stress reached such a point that he noticed in 2018, during the filming of his Disney sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of evilthat her voice had changed register since she first played the fairy tale villain.
“My body reacts very strongly to stress,” Jolie said. “My blood sugar goes up and down. “I suddenly had Bell’s palsy six months before my divorce.”
Jolie said that she “don’t really have a social life” living in Los Angeles these days, due to the unwanted attention she receives every time she goes out. It’s not that she pays attention to what is written about her in the press.
“I’ve been here for so long and everything has been said,” the actress noted.
From Hollywood to Cambodia
Jolie added in her interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine who eventually plans to leave Los Angeles for good and spend more time at his home in Cambodia.
“It’s part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the ability to live and travel with the same freedom. “I will move when I can,” Jolie said. “I grew up in a pretty superficial place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So, you look for authenticity.”
Jolie told the magazine Vogue in September that he began working less on films “seven years ago, only accepting jobs that did not require long shoots.” Because? “We had a lot to heal. We are still finding our footing,” she said.
The winner of the Oscar for best supporting actress for Interrupted innocence in 2000, didn’t go into details at the time, but the timeline of Jolie’s film hiatus coincides with the end of her marriage to Pitt. She filed for divorce seven years ago, in September 2016, after an alleged physical altercation with the actor that took place on a plane.
Jolie said she feels “a little down these days,” before revealing, “In some ways, I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade.”
After leading the hit Disney film Maleficent in 2014 and directing and co-starring with Pitt in the 2015 flop Oceanfront, Jolie’s film production took a significant hiatus. She has only had two major roles in the eight years since: Maleficent: Mistress of evil2019, and Those who wish me dead of 2021. He had supporting roles in Eternals Marvel (2021) and fantasy movie Come Away (2020) and lent his voice to The One and Only Ivan from Disney (2020) and the next Kung Fu Panda 4.
Production recently ended Maríaby Pablo Larraín, in which she plays the famous opera singer María Callas during the last days of her life.
