In just a few years, the Chinese automotive industry has been able to show amazing advances. Since its manufacturing opened to the world, the proposals seem endless due to the wide range they cover. The segments as we know them here are squared, as are the versions, propulsion systems and technologies, to name a few.
What is it that reaches our latitudes? Just a small sample. In our market the offer of Chinese brands had a marked growth in 2017. It was the year in which most of the 16 brands that operate in the country today landed, when the price of the dollar it had not reached 20 pesos. In those days, cover letters were based on tempting prices in exchange for very well-equipped products.
Now, with a market lacking currencies and units, the story is different but it continues to be written.
Inside this little world is frienda brand belonging to the consortium Great Wall Motorswhich specializes in the development of SUVs and which in our country is imported and marketed by the Car One Group.
Haval is distinguished by the quality, equipment and technology with which it equips its vehicles. It has demonstrated this with the H2 and the H6, two SUVs that have left a very good image and they have nothing to envy to products from renowned or long-established automotive companies.
Despite all this, they have a big point against: generalized prejudice that everything that comes from China “not reliable”. We go back to the beginning. The progress of the Chinese industry is evident and it is already here, you just have to give yourself the opportunity to get to know it.
He Jolion could be a very good starting point. It arrived in mid-2023 for replace H2. Be careful, it is not one of the most economical models, but quite the opposite and to make matters worse, the only variant offered is one of the most equipped.
Cuesta $55,075 (November list), and the brand assures that they are pesified at the value of the official dollar at the time of carrying out the operation (at the closing of this edition, $20,708,200).
Armed to the teeth
The Jolion debuted at the Beijing Motor Show in 2020. It is manufactured at the Baoding plant, China, on a new modular platform called LEMON that is also used in the third generation of the H6.
In dimensions it is larger than the H2 and a little smaller than the H6. It measures 4,472 mm long, 1,841 mm wide, 1,619 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, measurements that put it on par, for example, with a Jeep Compass, a Peugeot 3008, a Toyota Corolla Cross and a Volkswagen. Taos. For its part, the trunk has a capacity of 430 liters, which can be expanded to 1,130 with the rear seats folded.
The Jolion is a vehicle that does not go unnoticed. It was designed by Phil Simmons (the former Land Rover that also shaped the third generation of the H6) with the idea of targeting a younger audience. That is why, in addition to its modern style, it offers a palette of striking colors, such as this apple green or an electric blue/light blue.
The cabin respects the discreet and minimalist style of the H6, with which it shares several components such as the steering wheel, the circular gear selector and the floating-style central screen. The goal is fulfilled: replicate the pleasant feeling of being in a vehicle well finished -with combined materials that are pleasant to the touch- in a comfortable environment and with a high level of equipment.
It offers good space for passengers in both seats. In the back, there is enough room to rest your legs and Flat floor It is a relief for those who have to travel in the middle. Up front, the seats are electric and can be heated. Of course, it is surprising that the steering wheel not regulated in deptha detail that would help find the best driving position.
The infotainment system and connectivity are guaranteed through the enormous 12.3 central screen” with very good image quality and agile response to the touch, which allows you to pair phones with Android and iOS (iPhone) systems. In addition, it has a wireless phone charger.
The Jolion is a balanced and pleasant vehicle to drive both in the city and on the road. The soundproofing is one of the highest points: no wind noise enters and the engine is also well insulated.
Mechanically, it has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers a power of 141 CV and is associated with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The set works smoothly and easily in the urban environment. The suspension system, configured for our region, works efficiently on irregular surfaces, ensuring that the 18 inch wheels do not compromise ride comfort. In addition, the hardness-adjustable electric steering allows it to be adapted to all types of driving. On the road, for its part, it is firm and solid, transmitting a lot of security in curves.
Driving in the Jolion is made easier thanks to the comprehensive package of assistance, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, fatigue detection, blind spot warning, front and rear collision warning, automatic emergency braking, recognition of traffic signs and pedestrian safety assistance, among others.
Jolion significa “first love” in Chinese, and due to all its attributes this vehicle may very well represent it.
