Fiat finally presented the model in Argentina Fastbacka vehicle that mixes the silhouette of a sedan with that of an SUV and that of a coupe and is built on a platform similar to that of the Cronos, the best-selling car in Argentina.
This model will not only be available as a Fiat but will also carry the emblem of Abarththe sports division of the Italian brand, since the range that will be offered in our market will also have a spicy version, similar to what happens with Pulse.
According to what they recognize within the company, this model should have arrived in Argentina a couple of years ago, but the situation of the local economy was not ideal to bring an imported vehicle, even if it arrives from Brazil, a country with which there is an agreement. free trade.
The range that will be offered in the country will have two versions (Turbo and Abarth) that will use the same mechanical assembly, with a turbocharged gasoline engine. 1.3 liters of displacement and 175 horsepowerwhich the market calls T270 in reference to its torque.
The transmission is a 6-speed automatic and in all cases the drive is front. The difference between the two options is marked by aesthetic details and a sportier setup for the Abarth variant.
From Bull to Kronos
The aesthetics of the model had been revealed four years ago, at the São Paulo Motor Show. At that time, the Fastback prototype had surprised us with its avant-garde and original figure. A year later, Fiat confirmed the production of a future SUV.
But that concept car was based on the Toro pickup, while the production model is built on a foundation it shares with Cronos. That inevitably involved changes in the final style of the model.
The new Fastback exhibits a nose very similar to the Pulse, a model that debuted in 2022 in Argentina, it has the same doors as the Cronos and the rear sector stands out for maintaining that original idea of the 2018 prototype.
The new model has a total length of 4.43 meters, which makes it longer than the Cronos (measures 4.36). In addition, it is further off the ground (190 mm clearance), which improves the angles of attack and departure, which are 20° and 21° respectively.
For the two versions that will arrive in the country, the turbo gasoline engine was chosen. 1.3 liters of displacement and 175 horsepower. It is the same engine that, for example, is found in the Toro pickup truck or the Jeep Renegade and Compass.
Inside, the style is the same as that debuted with the Pulse, which features a “floating” screen, at the top of the center console, and a second display that acts as an instrument panel (it also has one with elements analog). In this case, an electronic handbrake is added and a much more generous trunk, with 600 liters of capacity.
In terms of equipment, the Fastback was equipped with a series of driving assistance elementssuch as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and automatic high beam switching on.
In addition, it has four airbags (two front and two side), automatic climate control, wireless cell phone charger, 18″ wheels and imitation leather upholstery.
The Fiat Fastback is offered in our market with prices of $ 31.500.000 for the Turbo 270 version and $ 33.900.000 for the Abarth variant.
A poisonous version
Although the two options presented in the country have the same mechanical assembly, the tuning and electronics that the Abarth model has give it a sportier performance.
The first differences are aesthetic, with a combination of colors on the outside and lighter tires with wheels with another drawing. He also carries the brand’s shield on his trunk, with the unmistakable scorpion.
The Abarth Fastback is also 5 mm closer to the ground and both the coils and the shock absorbers are stiffer on both axles compared to the Turbo version.
Also includes a “Poison” mode (Poison, in English) that makes the accelerator pedal more sensitive, makes the gearbox shift faster and performs them at 30% higher rotations, taking advantage of the availability of power.
The result of this management is seen in performance. For example, according to data provided by Fiat, the Turbo 270 version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, while the Abarth, with the Poison function selected, does so in 8.5 seconds.
