The automotive market ended 2024 on the rise. To the recovery of sales of 0 km cars, which had the best December in the last six years, used vehicle operations were added.
In the last month of the year, second-hand car transactions closed a 31,5% above the 122,024 that had been registered in 2023.
According to the Automotive Chamber of Commerce (CCA), the 160,539 units sold represented a unprecedented figure for the month of December since statistical data exists (1995), 30 years ago.
This figure also meant a 6.2% increase compared to the operations registered in November, the month in which 151,174 used vehicles were transferred.
In this way, in 2024, 1,745,335 used vehicleswhich represented a 5.5% increase compared to 1,654,395 units sold the previous year.
“2024 began in an extremely worrying way for the sector, with uninspiring sales volumes and without clear indications of how it would continue and end. Car prices were out of control due to the prevailing economic situation and therefore financing practically did not exist,” explained Alberto Príncipe, president of CCA.
“Sales volumes grew from July throughout the country, recording the best month in history. The measures implemented by the National Government began to bear fruit for the public. Values normalized and banks began to offer credit for the purchase of vehicles,” added Príncipe, who also predicted that the market will continue to recover in 2025.
A sales champion
The year 2024 also showed that the Volkswagen Gol continues to lead people’s preference when purchasing a used car. In total, they were sold 100,265 units of the compact that in Argentina stopped being sold as 0km from 2022.
As in 0 km, pickups began to gain greater prominence among used vehicles. The VW Gol has been the best-selling used car in the country for more than a decade. Historically it was accompanied on the podium by other compact models such as the Chevrolet Corsa, the Renault Clio and the Fiat Palio, to name a few, although that formula began to change in recent years when pickups began to take on a greater role.
So much so that in 2024, the second best-selling used vehicle on the market was the Toyota Hiluxwhich displaced third place Corsa.
