Advocations and saints that accompany the desire to be a mother and protect the baby

For many families, the desire to have a child can become a challenge. Within the Catholic tradition, there are several advocations of the Virgin Mary and Saints who, over the centuries, have been invoked by those who yearn for the blessing of motherhood or seek protection for the baby they expect.

Virgen de la Dulce Espera

One of the most popular advocations is the Virgin of Sweet Wait, also known as Virgen de la Esperanza, pregnant virgin or Virgin of the O. Her representation is very particular: Maria pregnant, with one hand on the belly and the dove that represents the Holy Spirit on her.

Devotion to this Marian invocation has centuries of history. It was in 656, during the tenth council of Toledo (Spain), when the party expectation party was instituted, held on December 18, a week before Christmas.

Today, many pregnant women carry with them a medal of the Virgen de la Sweet Wait as a sign of hope.

Blessed are Mary, Virgin and Mother.
The Lord filled you with grace and joy
In the sweet wait of Jesus.

We pray for women,
For couples who want the gift of a child
And they have problems conceiving.

Santa Ana, Mother of Mary

Mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus, Santa Ana is a figure deeply venerated by women who wish to conceive and by those who expect a childbirth without complications. According to tradition, Santa Ana lived long years without being able to have children until, by divine grace, she gave birth to Mary.

For that reason she is considered patron sterile, pregnant women, or who just gave birth.

Prayer:

Oh Santa Ana, in honor of the Heavenly Father,

I ask you to grant me my greatest wish: the grace of being a mother.

Oh glorious Santa Ana you who have the gift of peace, to collaborate in the impossible cases,

I humbly ask you to intercede for me in the collaboration and creation of a new being in my belly, product of your love, your amparo and your divine will.

I ask you, Santa Ana, to bless the body of my loved one and mine, to reign harmony and fertility break into my body.

I ask you, glorious Santa Ana, to give me the attitude and will I need so that my path to motherhood is positive, under love and sweetness.

Archangel Gabriel, the messenger

The Archangel Gabriel occupies a special place in the Catholic Church for having been the one who announced to Mary the conception of Jesus. For being a bearer of good news, many families who want to conceive have come to their intercession throughout history.

While the Catholic Church celebrates the solemnity of the Annunciation nine months before the Nativity of the Lord, the Archangel festival is commemorated on September 29.

Prayer:

Dear Arcángel Gabriel, come and wrap us with your enlightened angels.

I ask you with humility and thanks that your luminous presence

I can grant me blessed news about my motherhood,

As you did with our beloved Virgin Mary.

I ask for your help and your white angels so that we can fulfill

With the dream of being parents,

And my husband and I can conceive with love

To our long -awaited son.

We thank you because I am convinced

that my beloved request has a positive response.

Amado Arcángel Gabriel, you will always go in our hearts

And in our future son

Other devotions

The Basilica of San Agustín, in Rome (Italy), is another point of devotion for pregnant women. There is the sculpture of the 16th century known as the Madonna of childbirthwork of Jacopo Sansovino, before which for centuries the devotees have come to pray for a safe delivery. In that same basilica there is a sculptural representation of Santa Ana with the Virgin and the Child Jesus.

Among the devotions to which those who seek the gift of motherhood stand out. Maria, mother of beautiful love. It is also venerated Santa Gianna Beretta Molla, Italian doctor who offered her life for her unborn son. San Ramón Nonato, Patron of pregnant women and parturients, and San Gerardo Majella, protector of women in labor.
