Iskander, 23, has shared in several interviews that he always dreamed of playing King David, but never thought it would happen. He participated in a Broadway production when he heard about the next series centered on the famous king of Israel. After his initial audition, they told him no. A couple of weeks later, they called him for a second audition. His mother advised him to pray and fast before this second audition. Two months later, they offered him the role.
“For me, many times God speaks with the softer voice and, for me, the softer voice told me ‘I just endures’ … I don’t want to say that I knew this was my role, I really think God can choose anyone to fulfill their will,” Iskander said in a interview With Naomi Raine. “It’s not about me, it’s about him doing his will and someone who is willing to do his will.”
