Mary E. Harned, a scholar at the Charles Lozier Institute, the research arm of SBA Pro-Life America in the United States, presented a friend of the court (legal opinion) on behalf of your entity before the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, in support of the law that limits abortion in the country.
It is document It was presented on February 19 amid legal controversies over the future of the law that regulates abortion in cases of rape in the country, which was approved in February 2022 by the National Assembly. Since its approval, Constitutional Court judges have attempted to introduce amendments to the law to liberalize this practice.
According to the friend of the court, the Lozier Institute supports three provisions of the Organic Law that Regulates the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (LORIVE). First, the requirement for ultrasounds to be performed before making abortion decisions, a 12-week gestational age limit for abortion, and finally a ban on the commodification of post-abortion fetal remains.
