A vision of Saint Dominic about the Virgin Mary, Jesus and the end of the world

Within the framework of the feast of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, this August 8, we share with you a mystical vision of the saint along with Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Saint Francis of Assisi. Here all the details.

He Blessed Dominican Santiago de La Vorágine in his book of saints The golden legend points out that a Franciscan friar “an associate of Saint Francis for several years” told several Dominicans that Saint Dominic de Guzmán had a mystical vision in Rome, when he was seeking to have his order approved.

In prayer and ecstasy, the saint observed that Christ was going to throw 3 spears into the world. At this, the Blessed Virgin ran to her Son to ask him what she was about to do.

Christ responded that with those spears he was going “to destroy the earth” because it was “corrupted by the three vices of pride, lust and greed.”

Mary then prostrated herself at the feet of the Lord and begged him to have compassion on humanity, to forgive her and appealed to his mercy. Christ replied by asking her if she did not see how He was constantly offended.

The Virgin insisted to him saying: “My son! Moderate your indignation and wait a little longer. Look, I am going to provide you with a faithful servant, a fearless fighter who is going to undertake a campaign on your behalf throughout the earth. He will manage to defeat the world and subject it to your dominion.

“In this undertaking he will be helped by a companion, a servant of yours truly faithful and loyal to your cause, and between the two of you you will carry out this important task,” added the Mother of God.

At his Mother’s pleas, Christ accepted and asked her to show him those people. María immediately introduced him to Santo Domingo de Guzmán. When Jesus saw him, he became enthusiastic and praised his good servant as a “valiant and brave fighter” and expressed his confidence that he would put effort into what his Mother had promised.

Then the Virgin also showed him Saint Francis of Assisi and the Lord also praised him as he did Dominic.

The story indicates that at that moment Domingo looked attentively at Francisco because he did not know him, nor had he ever seen him.

The next day, in a church, the founder of the Dominicans recognized the founder of the Franciscans. He approached, gave him an effusive hug and told him: “You are my companion; with me you will travel the world. Let us establish a commitment of collaboration among ourselves, let us be faithful to it and there will be no adversary that can defeat us.”

Finally, Domingo told Francisco about the vision he had during the night and from then on both friends instilled a special friendly union among their religious orders.

Through preaching by word and example, the saints achieved great conversions.
