These tourists find it cheaper to travel than to take vacations in their country

take some holidays in southern Europe and in many neighboring regions it is notably cheaper for Germans than opting for holiday destinations within the country itselfespecially in Spain, where the prices of gastronomy and accommodation services were in April 26% lower to those of Germany.

Among the most popular holiday destinations in southern and southeastern Europe, the price level in Italy was the highest and yet rates in restaurants and hotels were 5% below those in Germany, according to data published this week by the Federal Statistical Office (Detatis).

The cheapest destinations in Europe

German tourists paid 18% less for food and accommodation services in Croatia than in Germany, 21% less in Malta23% less in Greece and 24% less in Chipre.

Destinations such as Spain (26%), Portugal (32%) and Turkey (41%) were even cheaper.

Los lower price levels among all the selected vacation destinations were registered in Albania -54% below the Germans-, and in Bulgaria -55%-, with what hotel stays and visits to restaurants cost in those two southeastern European countries less than half that in Germany.

Also in some countries neighboring Germany, gastronomy and hotel services were cheaper, such as in France (2%) and Austria (3%) and in Poland and the Czech Republic even by 19% and 36%, respectively.

The most expensive destinations in Europe

On the contrary, a vacation in the north Europe and in some other countries neighboring Germany they are more expensive for German tourists, in particular, among the selected holiday destinations, Switzerland, by 49%.

Hotel stays and restaurant visits in other popular destinations such as Denmark and Norway were also significantly more expensive in April, up 33% and 23% respectively.

Finland was comparatively somewhat cheaperalthough a holiday in that country cost 13% more than in Germany.

In the Netherlands, tourists had to pay 12% more for restaurant and hospitality services, while Germans who chose Sweden, a very popular destination, had to shell out 2% more.
