Saint Anthony of Padua: Prayer of Franciscan friars to find lost things

In this note we offer the prayer that the Franciscan friars of the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua (Italy) recommend praying to the “saint of the world”, whose feast day is celebrated this June 13, to find lost things.

In it website of the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua, the Franciscans explain that the prayer of praise titled If you ask (If you look) it is the one that “traditionally is prayed in the hope of finding lost things”, not only material but also spiritual.

The prayer was composed by the Franciscan brother Giuliano da Spira and is part of the Rhythmic Office s. Anthony written in 1233, two years after the death of Saint Anthony.

This prayer, the friars indicate, is prayed in the Basilica of San Antonio de Padua and, every Tuesday, in many churches around the world.

If you are looking for miracles
see death, error, calamity and the devil put to flight;
behold, the sick are healed.

The sea calms, the chains break;
The young and the old ask for and find health and lost things.
Dangers recede, needs disappear:

Let those who have experienced the protection of the Saint of Padua say it.

Glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, now and forever, forever and ever.
