The Primate Archdiocese of Mexico was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus after a Mass in the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, in which God was asked for forgiveness for the “offenses that have been committed against your Holy Name.”
Under the intercession of the Virgin of Guadalupe, Saint Joseph and Saint Michael the Archangel, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes, Primate Archbishop of Mexico, carried out the consecration on Sunday, May 26, accompanied by members of the Chapter of the Basilica of Guadalupe.

In a previous statement, Cardinal Aguiar explained that the reason for carrying out this act is in consideration of “the complicated times we live in in our country and in the world.”
According to the cardinal, throughout history the Catholic Church has resorted “to divine aid through acts of consecration to the Sacred Heart in especially difficult moments of lack of peace for families, for society, for the People of God. , for nations, caused by various conflicts.”
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, Cardinal Aguiar turned to the image of Saint Mary of Guadalupe and asked God for forgiveness for “for all the transgressions, violations and offenses that have been committed against your Holy Name, your commandments, of our Faith.”
Furthermore, he expressed pain for the injustices that affect “the dignity of people, of the Gift of Life, injured by the laws, which allow homicides, stripping the most vulnerable, innocent and defenseless, of this first gift and right, attacking the family”.
Cardinal Aguiar offered the “thoughts, words, decisions and acts” of the members of the Catholic Church in Mexico City, with the desire to achieve “unity and peace, to be builders of a synodal and missionary Church.” .
“We present our act of consecration in favor of our Archdiocese and our country, trusting in Your blessing and Your providence, asking that You always keep us under Your loving gaze,” concluded the cardinal’s prayer.
Cardinal Aguiar also asked for the protection of Saint Michael the Archangel and the Virgin of Guadalupe
In the presence of faithful gathered in the Villa de Guadalupe, before the consecration Mass, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar also blessed an image of Saint Michael the Archangel.
Prior to the beginning of the consecration Mass, the cardinal addressed a prayer to God, asking, through the intercession of Saint Michael the Archangel, that “you would deign to help us against Satan.”
In his prayer, Cardinal Aguiar also invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary, to ask her for protection from “all other unclean spirits that infest the world for the harm of the human race and the perdition of souls.”
To them, the cardinal cried, “throw them into the abyss and separate them from us, forever and ever.”
