In a solemn Mass celebrated on May 24, 2023 in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, which Don Bosco built in Turin (Italy), the Rector Major of the Salesians, today Cardinal Ángel Fernández explained what it means to have the Help of Christians as a mother.
According to images released by the Salesian News Agency (ANS), the temple was packed with faithful and devotees coming from different parts of the world.

In his homily, the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco recalled how the founder of the Salesians always looked for a mother figure to help him in his service with the boys, since many were orphans and had no family. For this reason he asked his mother and the mother of Blessed Miguel Rua for help, so that they could be with the young people.
However, the Rector Major indicated, the saint used to assure that his boys always had “the love of the Mother in heaven, of the Help of Christians.”
In this regard, he emphasized that this message continues to be very topical, because She is the Mother of each of us. Furthermore, he highlighted that the Helper is a mother “who even today holds my hand and never leaves me.”
“This means having Mary Help of Christians as a mother. This was Don Bosco’s great conviction. This must be our devotion,” emphasized the Salesian superior.
In this sense, he described that devotion to Mary Help of Christians “tells us about how God loves us so much that he gave us the love of a mother who is always with each of us on the path of life, wherever we find ourselves.”
After finishing the Mass, the traditional procession of Mary Help of Christians took place through the streets of the Valdocco neighborhood, where the Salesian family was born.
