San José Obrero Day: Catholic Church in Mexico defends decent and well-paid work

As this May 1 commemorates the feast of San José Obrero and Labor Day, the bishops of Mexico call for “decent and well-paid work.”

In a statement published by the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM), with the signature of Mons. Joel Ocampo Gorostieta, Bishop of Ciudad Altamirano and responsible for the Episcopal Dimension of Pastoral Work, we remember “the exemplary figure of San José Obrero, patron of workers, whose humble and faithful work as a carpenter in Nazareth reminds us of the dignity and value of all honest work.”

For the Mexican bishops, “in these challenging, cyclical times, we find ourselves faced with the urgent need to reflect on the importance of decent and well-paid work.”
