Saint of the day April 23: Saint George. Catholic Saints

Those who witnessed the saint’s agony were impressed by his strength and said among themselves: “It is truly worth it to be a follower of Christ.” Saint George, dying, upon hearing that they would cut off his head, gave thanks to his executioners: without wishing it, they assured that he would go to heaven, next to God.

The footprints of the warrior

Saint George is generally represented riding a horse, wearing medieval-style military clothing and armor, carrying a palm, a spear and a shield. He is also represented next to a white flag marked with a red cross, stamped from end to end – the icon of the crusaders. Sometimes, that flag appears carved on his shield. These details are a constant in paintings, paintings and sculptures.

England has the Flag of Saint George as its banner, a symbol that the saint is the patron of the nation. He is also patron of Boys Scouts; as well as farmers, archers, sculptors, blacksmiths, prisoners, circus workers, mountaineers, soldiers, etc. among numerous other patronages. In many places he is revered as the protector of domestic animals.
