A Passionist priest who contributed to the success of Zara in its beginnings dies

On April 19, he died at the age of 89. Fr. Jorge Manuel Lopez Neiraa Passionist priest who contributed to the success of Zara’s launch by creating cooperatives in which thousands of seamstresses worked.

Born in the town of Boqueijón in A Coruña, he was the third of six children in the family formed by his parents, Ramón and Concepción. At the age of 19 he made his first religious profession, which he ratified as perpetual when he turned 22.

He studied at the Mondoñedo seminary, at the University of Deusto and at the Pontifical Angelicum University of Rome. Ordained a priest in 1960, he lived for a few years in Navarra, where he dedicated himself to teaching. In 1966 he returned to his native Galicia where he developed his pastoral and social promotion work that he is now remembered for.
