As for the cardinal judges, they will leave office at the age of 80. However, the Holy Father may decide in each case and order a longer stay. Furthermore, resignations prior to the age limit will only be accepted if Pope Francis so decides.
Likewise, according to the document, the Holy Father “may at any time dispense from service, even temporarily, to magistrates who, due to proven incapacity, cannot perform their duties.”
At the time the president leaves office, the Pontiff may also appoint an assistant president until a new one is elected.
