This 2024 is not just another year for Ford and the Mustang, since it is 60 years since the appearance of its emblematic model. And for the local subsidiary there will be a double celebration since it was confirmed that the best-selling sports car in the world will arrive this year on the Argentine market.
From Ford Argentina they confirmed that the seventh generation of the muscle car most famous in the world will arrive in the second half of 2024, more precisely within the third quarter of this year.
The confirmation was made within the framework of the celebration for the 60th anniversary of the Mustang that took place in Brazil, a celebration that involved more than 420 models from all eras spinning around the famous Interlagos circuit, in São Paulo.
The Mustang has been sold officially in Argentina since 2016 and now aims to continue that tradition with the seventh generation, which is presented as the edition that has the most powerful versions in history.
And true to its history, for the moment there is no approach to electromobility despite the trend that the global industry has been showing even in sports models like this one.
Popular and desired
The Mustang was born in the 60s with the intention of conquering the young public and came to the American market with an absolutely popular price: $2,368. It was even more affordable than a Volkswagen Beetle.
Its sales price, the model’s sporty features and more powerful versions or special editions built an unbeatable image in the American market that eventually spread throughout the world. In 2023, with more than 68 thousand units delivered, it once again became the best-selling sports car in the world.
Although today it does not have the level of access of the past, Ford’s sports car is still a comparatively affordable sports car. In the home market, for example, its range starts at $30,000, the same as a medium SUV.
In Argentina the story is different, since the tax burden on vehicles in general is very high, and if it is an imported one, it is even worse. That’s why a Mustang here can cost more than double. Even so, comparatively you would not get such a powerful model for a similar price.
The most powerful generation in history
In September 2022, Ford revealed the design of the seventh generation of the Mustang to the world. It is a model that uses the same platform as the previous edition but that was “deeply revised,” according to the company.
Despite the aesthetic evolution, His figure is unmistakably Mustang. Despite having more stylized and modern headlights, there are details that are reminiscent of historical models, such as the traditional three-bar rear lights.
Although what defines it are its unalterable proportions, with a body fastback which refers to the versions of the first generation. It now looks more aggressive with a larger grille and air intakes.
Inside are the most noticeable changes, since the union of the instrument panel with the multimedia center, composed of two high quality screenscreate a very modern environment for the driver.
In the case of the dashboard, the style can be configured with different options, even with one that recalls a historical model. These alternatives are enhanced by the remote update capacity of the new Mustang, since different alternatives that Ford offers could be loaded.
The most powerful Mustang in history
For this renewal of the Mustang, Ford decided to create the most powerful generation in history with one particularity: use the same engines that it had been installing in the most popular versions.
The smallest variant has the engine 2.3-liter EcoBoost that delivers 315 horsepower. However, this variant will not come to Argentina.
The one that does matter for the local market is the GT version, since it will be the one that will be sold in the local market. This variant retains the Coyote V8 engine, which for this edition increases its power to 488 horsepower (before it gave 466). Some more horses even than the Mach 1 version (475), which was the most powerful one sold here so far.
There are other variants, such as the Dark Horse, with 500 horsepower, or the beastly GTD, with 800 horsepower, which at the moment are not confirmed for the Argentine market, but their arrival is not ruled out, especially the first.
It comes associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 10 speed automatic. The latter will be the one that will be offered in Argentina.
Among other new features, it incorporates an assistance system for skidding in curves. The traditional handbrake lever does not have a mechanical system but activates an electronic system that momentarily blocks the rear wheels and then assists in the maneuver of drift be easier to control.
