In July 2023, Pope Francis sent Mons. Charles Scicluna, assistant secretary of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Mons. Jordi Bertomeu, an official of the same dicastery, to Lima to investigate complaints against the Sodalicio for alleged cases of abuses.
Los Vatican envoys received to Mons. Eguren and other members of the SCV, to Pedro Salinas and representatives of the San Juan Bautista de Catacaos (Piura) peasant community, which accuses the Sodalicio of appropriating its land irregularly.
In a statement, the SCV assured that information was provided “about the process of care and reparation for victims of abuse in the Sodalicio.”
In mid-March of this year, the SCV confirmed to ACI Prensa having received letters from the Vatican with instructions to open investigations into some of its members.
