Today, April 7, the Church universally celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday, established by the Congregation (now Dicastery) for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on May 23, 2000, at the request of Pope Saint John Paul. II. Since that year, the Sunday following Resurrection Sunday (II Sunday of Easter Time) is destined to celebrate Divine Mercy, thus closing the Easter Octave.
The objective of this great festival is to bring the message to all hearts that God is Merciful and loves everyone.
“I wish that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and protection for all souls and, especially, for poor sinners,” Jesus told Saint Faustina Kowalska.
