Olivia Maurel, declared atheist, “influencer” and activist against surrogacy, met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Thursday, April 4, in a private audience that did not appear on the Pontiff’s official agenda.
Maurel, who also defines herself as a “feminist,” was born through surrogacy. Upon finding out about this, as an adult, she suffered from severe depression that even led her to want to take her own life.
This experience helped her to raise her voice against surrogacy and to raise awareness in society of the serious consequences it leaves on people, especially mothers and children.
