Pope Francis has warned about the danger of “not being universal” and being locked in “tribal isolation” in a message addressed to the Nigerian community in Rome whom he received in private audience this Holy Monday.
“Your roots are closed, they are isolated in this tribal and non-universal, non-community attitude. Community yes, tribe no. This is very important. And it applies to everyone, to everyone, each one according to his position. Universality is not locking oneself in one’s own culture. True, one’s own culture is a gift, but do not lock yourself in it: give it, offer it,” the Pontiff expressed in a brief speech.
Pope Francis has made these reflections in a message focused on three elements “vital for the life of his community” which are: “Gratitude, richness in diversity and dialogue.”
