Gregorian University incorporates 2 study institutes governed by Jesuits

Next Sunday, May 19, the solemnity of Pentecost, the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Pontifical Oriental Institute, governed by the Society of Jesus, will be incorporated into the Pontifical Gregorian University, founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola.

According to the Holy See Press Office, Pope Francis ordered in 2019 that both institutions join the University founded in 1551, “although retaining their own names and missions,” with the intention of improving the capacity of both organizations to meet their objectives in the current context.

On the other hand, Pope Francis also established that the Dicastery for the Oriental Churches continues to “support and promote the mission of the Pontifical Oriental Institute”, created in 1917, in such a way that Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti will assume the role of Patron of the institute.
