December 5 was a special day in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. More than 200 priests gathered in an assembly to reflect, sing to the Immaculate Conception—the invocation of the Virgin Mary who is the Patroness of the country—and pray the Holy Rosary, together with Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of the capital.
Given the circumstances faced by the local Church, which is suffering violent persecution by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega, this priestly meeting is undoubtedly a sign of hope for Nicaragua.
In a video published on the Facebook page of the Archdiocese of Managua, the priests are seen singing Sweet hymns singing to Mary. Specifically, you can see the priests when they sing the second part of this stanza: “Mary conceived without spot / pure source of eternal beauty / from her infernal dragon her head / he broke her head with her virginal foot.”
