The spokesperson for the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE), Mons. César García Magán, has criticized the “independent audit on complaints of sexual abuse within the Spanish Catholic Church” that was commissioned by the law firm Cremades & Calvo Sotelo in the year 2022 and delivered in December 2023.
In an interview published in the ABC newspaper, the episcopal spokesperson even goes so far as to affirm that “the audit report of the Cremades & Calvo Sotelo law firm is not the report of the Church. It is a tool that we have used, like others.”
Although Mons. García Magán highlights at some point in the conversation that it is “professional and serious work” carried out by a team chosen entirely by the legal firm, he does not fail to address some of the controversies that have surrounded him.
