Specifically in Venezuela, there are three mission territories: the Apostolic Vicariates of Tucupita, Puerto Ayacucho and Caroní. An apostolic vicariate, according to the Catholic encyclopediait is an ecclesiastical jurisdiction designated by the Holy See to govern those baptized in territories where the ecclesiastical hierarchy is not yet introduced. They are usually inhospitable and difficult access territories.
The Venezuelan mission territories are inhabited by various indigenous ethnic groups “that face precariousness situations, with limited access to living media and a quality education,” according to the WPO of Venezuela.
“It is in these places where lay or consecrated men and women, priests and bishops dedicate their lives to bring the Gospel and to accompany these communities in their struggle for a decent life,” they add.
How to participate?
From anywhere in the world, the faithful Catholics can pray for missions and missionaries, “asking for strength and success in their work.”
In addition, the OMP of Venezuela point out that it can be collaborated economically directly with the social and evangelization works that are carried out in the country, “as children’s dining rooms, construction of schools, household houses, chapels, and catechesis, benefiting the most vulnerable people in Venezuela and in the rest of the world.”
Similarly, they invite to participate in the different volunteer programs, offering their time to support these vulnerable communities, either in the short or long term.
Venezuela’s WPOs have made available different missionary animation materials for all audiences including children, youth, families and consecrated life, which can be consulted On its official website to deepen the experience of the missionary month.
On Sunday, October 19, the Central Mass of Domund will be held at the Our Lady of Candelaria church in Caracas at 12:00 pm, and in all parishes in the country.
It should be noted that on October 19, Pope Leo XIV will canonize the first saints born in Venezuela, the Blessed José Gregorio Hernández and Carmen Elena Rendiles.
