Bishop Ciro Quispe, Juli’s Prelate Emeritus, in the Andean South of Peru, broke the silence after his resignation a few days ago and said he voluntarily presented it “after a time of reflection and prayer.”

In his statement dated October 2 and published on the Facebook page of Juli’s Prelature, Mons. Quispe thanked God and the local faithful for his love and said that he leaves “with much sadness this town, which has an inexplicable unique charm, as I have written in my last books or pronounced in my various homilies”.
“I retire by my own decision and I hope and pray for the sake of our Prelature. To date I have no complaint in the civil jurisdiction, nor a process in the ecclesiastical jurisdiction,” said Bishop Quispe.
“Unfortunately and against my own will, I had to denounce, at the time, some people and journalists who defame and harassed us, without mercy, during this last year, lucidly dividing the feeling of our people,” he added without giving more details.
The resignation of Mons. Quispe took place after an investigation of the Holy See initiated in mid -2024 for accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior with women and poor fund management in the prelature. The investigation was commissioned to Mons. Marco Antonio Cortez Lara, although its results have not been publicly disclosed.
“I pray to the Lord of Life so that one day the truth comes to light,” added Mons. Quispe, who was preceded by Juli since 2018, when Pope Francis appointed him.
In addition, he asked “forgiveness to all those who offended with my actions and words” as well as the “mistakes I surely made for my inexperience, not for bad faith.”
Finally, the bishop asked “with humility and contrite heart, which also recounts for this poor sinner.”
