This morning, Pope Leo XIV received at the Vatican Apostolic Palace to Karol Tadeusz Nawocki, president of Poland since August 6.
As usual, the president subsequently met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, secretary of state of his holiness, and with Mons. Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary for relations with states and international organizations.

At the meeting behind closed doors with the Secretary of State, the socio -political situation of the country was addressed, “making special reference to the values on which the Polish society is based and the need to build consensus against the challenges it must face,” according to the Vatican in a statement released after the hearing.
In the course of the conversation, international issues were also discussed, paying special attention to the conflict in Ukraine and the security of Europe.
Karol Nawocki, 42, won the presidency in a second round on June 1 by obtaining 50.9% of the votes compared to 49.1% of Rafał Trzawski.
Nawrocki is a historian and, although he has declared that he has never belonged to a political party, he is known for his defense of national values and his conservative profile. He declares himself Catholic and during his first months of mandate he has shown firm opposition to policies in favor of abortion.
After his victory, the new president began his speech with an appointment of the Bible (2 Chronicles 7:14), and during his first day in office he prayed to the icon of the Virgin of Our Lady of Częstochowa, of great relevance for the Catholics of the country.
