Leo XIV remembers the life and testimony of St. Augustine in his day

Pope Leo XIV recalled through his account in X the teaching he supposes for Christians “life and testimony” of St. Augustine on the day when the Catholic Church celebrates its mandatory liturgical memory.

“The life and testimony of St. Augustine remind us that each of us has received gifts and talents from God, and that our vocation, our realization and our joy are born to return them in loving service to God and others,” said the Pontiff.

From his choice as successor of San Pedro, Pope Leo XIV has made continuous allusions to his vocation as an Augustinian religious. In his first greeting from the central lodge of the Basilica of San Pedro on May 8, he exclaimed:

“I am Augustine, a son of St. Augustine, who said: ‘With you I am a Christian and for you, bishop.’ In this sense we can walk all together towards that country that God has prepared us.”

Throughout his more than three months of pontificate, Pope Leo XIV has been consistent in leaving in almost each of his speeches, catechesis and interventions, a pearl of wisdom transferred by the Bishop of Hippo.

Not surprisingly, his papal motto In that one, one (In him, which is one, we are one) comes from a homily from the holy disciple of San Ambrosio de Milan about Psalm 127.
