“Santa Rosa de Lima, Children’s Teacher”, It is the title of the catechesis offered by the Catholic Encyclopedia (EC) of ACI Press, within the framework of the Festival of the First Santa de América, which is celebrated in Peru this August 30.
The initiative is composed of drawings of the artist Luis Pacheco del Pino, along with some short texts by José Gálvez Krüger, director of the EC, who comments that the goal is to offer “a catechesis in images that is brief, concrete and pious; with three or four lines because the children do not need more by image”.

Some of these illustrations show Santa Rosa de Lima carrying the Blessed Sacrament or feeding a puppy, to transmit the love of the saint for the Eucharist and nature.
The catechesis, explains Gálvez, also responds to the fact that Pope Leo XIV “has highlighted all the spiritual gifts that the Church of Peru gave to the world and that made this people be true to Christ and faithful to the Church and that its shepherds were faithful to the mission.”
Then, “taking up the ancient baroque tradition of the emblematic love, the artist Luis Pacheco has adapted to the sensitivity of children in the most beautiful way the great classics of Peruvian religious art” as the Inca child or the arcabuceros.
In this way, Gálvez emphasizes “Catholic encyclopedia is making many efforts to make everyone who wants to learn from the bases the Christian doctrine, all the ancient material that is required, which apart from being beautiful is very well done.”
One of the images remembers the time, in 1615, Santa Rosa saved Lima from a pirate invasion, with prayer and with the Blessed Sacrament.
