At the end of the General Hearing on Wednesday, August 29, Pope Leo XIV once again claimed the end of the war in the Holy Land, demanding the release of hostages, a high fire and respect for humanitarian law.
In his speech aimed at Italian language pilgrims, the Pontiff recalled the fasting day and prayer held last Friday before making their call to find paths of peace again: “I re -direct a strong call to both the parties involved and the international community to put an end to the conflict in the Holy Land that so much terror, destruction and death has caused.”

“I beg that all hostages are released, that a permanent fire is reached, which facilitates the safe entry of humanitarian aid and that humanitarian law is fully respected,” said the Pontiff, who stressed “the obligation to protect civilians and prohibitions of collective punishment, indiscriminate use of strength and forced displacement of the population.”
In this sense, he joined the joint declaration of the Greco-Oortodox and Latin patriarchs of Jerusalem formulated yesterday, in which “they asked to end this spiral of violence, end the war and give priority to the common good of people.”
