The Shalom Catholic community has opened the call to participate in its missionary expeditions in Brazil, Angola and India, where evangelization joins medical care, training and recreational activities to transform realities marked by poverty.
In the Brazilian Amazon, the mission takes place in the city of Chaves, where nine consecrated ones have been dedicated to prayer and evangelization “door to door”. This town, with a human development index of just 0.45, faces serious problems such as child sexual exploitation and lack of opportunities.

The missionary Viviane Barbosa stressed that Chaves “lives a contrast between her natural beauty and their social challenges”, and regretted that “many see Chaves as an opportunity to earn money at the expense of people.”
The next expedition to Chaves will take place from February 5 to 20, 2026 and will include evangelization in riverside communities, medical care, cultural and recreational activities.
To participate, you must be more than 18 years old, full -time availability and assume the expenses of the trip and registration. Applications will be open until September 9 at the official Shalom community site.
Uruguayan Víctor Ruiz, who participated in the previous expedition, said that “it was worth having traveled 4,000 kilometers for 30 hours to spend 15 days on the mission and have my transformed life.”
According to the organizers, voluntary work is a double track experience: transforms both those who receive help and those who provide it. “There is no way for you to go from Chaves after living all this and remains the same person. It is impossible,” said one of the missionaries.
