Father Paulo Borges is a parish vicar of São Pedro, of the parent church of São Miguel and Água de Alto; President of the Diocesan Commission of the Pastoral of Health and chaplain of the Hospital del Divino Espírito Santo de Ponta Delgada.

In the priestly silver wedding mass, Fr. Adriano Borges recalled that on July 25 the Church celebrates Santiago el Mayor, who, with Peter and John, were favorite of Jesus.

“It is not a special predilection, but symbolic, because we are here the three brothers. We are not Pedro, Santiago and Juan, but Adriano, Paulo and José,” said the father, according to the Ecclesia agency, of the Portuguese Episcopal Conference.

Father Adriano said that Jesus “chose who wanted” and that they were “men with many fragilities, with many weaknesses.”

According to him, “priests are not perfect people.” “The priest builds the community, but the community also builds the priest,” he said.

Fr. Adriano stressed that the mission of the priest is “bringing people to Jesus.”

“A priest who does not have as a function or as a mission, first of all, bring people to Christ, is not doing what has been asked,” he said. “What Jesus asked is to bring everyone to Him,” he added.
