Faithful Catholics of the community of El Pescadero, in Baja California Sur (Mexico), performed an act of relief on July 27, after the desecration of a parish in which religious images and consecrated hosts were destroyed were thrown to the ground.

The Diocese of Peace reported In a statement That the night of Thursday, July 17, “the Sacred Heart of Jesus Temple was desecrated”, located about 90 kilometers from La Paz, capital of the State.

This aggression, said the diocese, “seriously hurts the sensitivity and faith of the people of God, it is an outrage to the dignity of a sacred place where Christ is present and where the faithful gather to pray, celebrate the sacraments and live their faith.”

Speaking to ACI Press on July 26, Fr. Raúl Vicente Santisteban, pastor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, indicated that the next morning, July 18, they saw that in the church “the crucifix was all broken, (the remains of) the cross and the Christ were thrown around the altar; the tabernacle was all destroyed; the hosts were lying on the ground,” said the priest.

The priest explained that there is still no certainty about the motivations of the aggressor or the aggressors, although they suspect that they entered “to look for money because in the sacristy they left me a disorder, disaster. But already checking things, (who entered, made) a wise of objects, but they did not take anything.”

Fr. Santisteban Cota indicated that they waited for local authorities and, after reviewing the property, confirmed that there was no robbery.

Grievance to the Eucharist

The attack included a direct desecration to the sacred Eucharist. Some hosts were found on an auxiliary table, while others were scattered on the ground. The priest clarified that “they were not taken, they were thrown to the ground. The copon containing hosts was at the entrance of the Temple lying.” “There were no robberies, there was only destruction,” he added.

In addition, Fr. Santisteban Cota said that the virile was not found, the liturgical object used to expose the host during worship, but “the host contained in the virile, which was inside the tabernacle, was made bits, also lying on the ground.”
