Bishop calls for forgiveness for changing the image of Jesus for that of men in Cuba

During the Mass for the anniversary of the Cuban city of Santa Clara, Mons. Arturo González Amador, he called the population to reflect on how it acted in previous years and ask for forgiveness for having changed in the houses the image of Christ for that of men, “making them gods.”

The Bishop of Santa Clara celebrated yesterday the 336 years of foundation of this city with a Eucharist in the ancient hermitage of the Virgen del Carmen, during which he called the unity in God and the concern for those who have less.

In that sense, the diocese reported in its Facebook accountthe prelate cited Psalm 68 to remember that “the man never disregard the poor or forget the one who is chained.”

“They are not beautiful words to the ear that we hear today,” he said, “are words that raise their mood, words inspired by God: ‘those who suffer’ are happy (…) God who approaches peoples to show him a better path that leads to good and fraternity, because ‘those who seek the Lord will have more encouragement.”

As for the foundation’s anniversary, the Bishop of Santa Clara said that this date must be a reason to “renew our faith and our confidence in the Lord who comes to approach those who suffer”, but also to “take a obligatory look at yesterday, our founding parents and ask ourselves: how have we welcomed that closeness of the Lord to us?”.

“This city was born from the altar, seeking and looked up at God, but over the years, what have we done? Today is a day to tell the Lord ‘Forgive us because we remove your image of our rooms and place images of men by making them gods (…) Forgive me and disagree with me and all those who rejected you Lord.”

He also invited Christ to ask his presence “to discover the objective reality, not the speeches full of lies.”

“Let’s look today in our city to those who do not have a roof, those who seek in the brass of garbage, to the beggars, inspire projects that take us to good, to prosperity, that help us to live the illusion, hope, because Lord, we have finished the oil of hope (…) let’s lift our losses lost to the God who makes all things new,” he said.
