Church warns that violence in Mexico reflects carelessness of vulnerable childhood

The primacy archdiocese of Mexico issued an energetic call for attention to the situation facing childhood in the country, warning that the growing insecurity and violence are a reflection of a society that has neglected the well -being of its children.

The text denounces that “reality shows us that many children live in conditions of vulnerability, exposed to poverty, violence and lack of opportunities. The most serious thing is that many of them today are recruited by organized crime, depriving them of their childhood, their innocence and putting their future at risk.”

The warning is based on alarming figures. According to the Network for Children’s Rights in Mexico (Redim)between January and November 2024, 2,243 victims of homicide between people from 0 to 17 years were registered.

In addition, sexual violence against minors continues to increase, as well as lacks in basic services: 42.3% of this population do not have access to health services and 21.2% do not have sufficient and nutritious food.

“In a world marked by violence, hurry, inequality and indifference, children question us with their fragility and hope.
