Church warns that violence in Mexico reflects carelessness of vulnerable childhood

The primacy archdiocese of Mexico issued an energetic call for attention to the situation facing childhood in the country, warning that the growing insecurity and violence are a reflection of a society that has neglected the well -being of its children.

In a Published editorial This Sunday in the weekly from faith, the Archdiocese points out that there is currently the problem of the serious “insecurity and violence (…) because we have neglected the construction of a more fair and human environment for childhood.”

The text denounces that “reality shows us that many children live in conditions of vulnerability, exposed to poverty, violence and lack of opportunities. The most serious thing is that many of them today are recruited by organized crime, depriving them of their childhood, their innocence and putting their future at risk.”

The warning is based on alarming figures. According to the Network for Children’s Rights in Mexico (Redim)between January and November 2024, 2,243 victims of homicide between people from 0 to 17 years were registered.

In addition, sexual violence against minors continues to increase, as well as lacks in basic services: 42.3% of this population do not have access to health services and 21.2% do not have sufficient and nutritious food.

The archdiocese stressed that “the well -being of children is the thermometer of our humanity”; And he warned that “it has a lot to do with the lack of training of values ​​within the family nucleus and contempt for human life.”

“In a world marked by violence, hurry, inequality and indifference, children question us with their fragility and hope. They are the purest reflection of humanity, carriers of a promise that can only be fulfilled if we guarantee them an environment where they can grow with dignity, love and real opportunities,” says the text.

The Church called on all social sectors to get involved in this cause. “It is a shared responsibility throughout society: schools, governments, institutions, religious communities, and of each citizen,” says the editorial.

As part of its pastoral response, the Archdiocese announced the realization of a great children’s meeting on Saturday, May 31 at the Casa House Huipulco, located south of Mexico City. The day will bring together children in an atmosphere of faith, games, learning and coexistence.
