On April 21, the stealth procedure of the papal apartment of the Apostolic Palace was carried out and of which it was used by Francisco in the Santa Marta house.
This is an ancient tradition that consists of sealing and ensuring the pontifical rooms immediately after the death of the Pope to protect personal documents and guaranteeing an ordered transition in the conduct of the Catholic Church.
Leo XIV proceeded to reopen the apartment of the Apostolic Palace in the presence of Camarlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell; of the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin; of the substitute for general affairs, Mons. Edgar Peña Parra, of the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Mons. Paul Richard Gallagher; and of the regent of the Pontifical House, Mons. Leonardo Sapienza.
At the moment the Vatican has not reported whether Leo XIV will live in the apartment of the Apostolic Palace or if he will reside in the Santa Marta house, as Pope Francis did.
