Seven Franciscan friars die in a traffic accident in Nigeria, Africa

Seven Franciscans, members of the custody of San Francisco and Santa Clara of the order of the Capuchin minor friars in Nigeria, died in a serious traffic accident.

The accident, reports the Vatican agency Fidesit happened on Saturday, May 3, when a group of 13 Franciscan brothers went from the state of Enugu to the state of Cross River.

The news was confirmed by Brother John-Kennedy Anyanwu, Ofm Cap., Custodian of the Order, with a statement on May 4, released from the Capuchino convent of ENUGU.

The general curia of the Capuchin minor friars indicated that the accident occurred when the brothers “descended a hill. Four of the brothers died on the spot, while the other three died in the hospital. The other six suffered wounds of diverse consideration and were transferred to Enugu to receive treatment.”

Of the seven deceased, one was the guardian and advisor of custody, another the connovation of custody, four theology students and a post -novice.
