2025 conclave: these are the United States and Canada cardinals who participate

Cardinals around the world have gone to the Vatican to participate in a centennial tradition known as conclave, a meeting in which the Cardinals College gathers to choose a new Pope.

The Catholic Church currently has 252 cardinals. However, only 135 of these cardinals can vote in the conclave because a cardinal must be under 80 years to vote.

During his pontificate, Pope Francis appointed 108 of the 135 voters. There are 14 cardinals representing the United States and Canada: 10 from the United States and four in Canada.

Cardenal Robert Premost Osa

The Cardinal Prevost is the prefect of the Dicasterio for the bishops and was superior general of the Order of San Agustín. He was also a bishop of Chiclayo (Peru) from 2015 to 2023. Pope Francis created Cardinal in 2023. He is 69 years old.

Cardinal Daniel Dinardo

Cardinal Dinardo is the emeritus archbishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, serving in the Archdiocese from 2006 to January 20, 2025. Cardinal was created by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. He is 75 years old.

Cardenal Raymond Leo Burke

Cardinal Burke was a bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, for almost nine years and founded the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe during that time. Subsequently, he was Archbishop of St. Louis for four years. He was created Cardinal in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. From 2008 to 2014, he was a prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature. He is 76 years old.

Cardenal Timothy Dolan

Cardinal Dolan has been Archbishop of New York since 2009 and continues in office at 75 years. He was created Cardinal in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI.

Cardenal James Michael Harvey

Cardinal Harvey is Arciprest of the Papal Basilica of San Pablo Extramuros in Rome. It was also a prefect of the Pontifical House of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, who created him Cardinal in 2012. He is 75 years old.

Cardenal Blase Cupich

Cardinal Cupich has been Chicago Archbishop since 2014 and was created Cardinal in 2016 by Pope Francis. He is 76 years old.

Cardenal Joseph Tobin

Cardinal Tobin is Newark Archbishop, New Jersey, since 2017 and a member of the Redeemer Order. He was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2016. He is 72 years old.

Cardenal Wilton Gregory

Cardinal Gregory was Archbishop of Washington DC, until January 6, 2025. He became the first African -American purple when Pope Francis created him Cardinal in 2020. He is 77 years old.

Cardenal Robert McElroy

Cardinal Mcelory happened to Cardinal Gregory as Archbishop of Washington. He was previously bishop of San Diego. He was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2022. He is 71 years old.

Cardenal Kevin Farrell

Cardinal Farrell is Camarlengo of the Holy Roman Church and Prefect of Dicastery for the laity, family and life. He was also auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington from 2002 to 2007 and Bishop of Dallas from 2007 to 2017. He was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2016 and is 77 years old.

Cardinal Collins was Archbishop of Toronto until 2023. In 2012, Cardinal was created by Pope Benedict XVI. He is 78 years old.

Cardenal Gérald Lacroix ISPX

Cardinal Lacroix has been Quebec Archbishop since 2011 and was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2014. He is 67 years old.

Cardenal Frank Leo

Cardinal Leo is Archbishop of Toronto since 2023. Cardinal was created in 2024 by Pope Francis and, at 53, he is one of the youngest cardinals.

Cardenal Michael Czerny SJ

Cardinal Czerny is a prefect of the Dicasterio for the Service of Integral Human Development since 2022 and was created Cardinal by Pope Francis in 2019. He is 78 years old.
