In the document, signed by the director of the Vatican health agency, Dr. Andrea Arcalli, it is pointed out that the Holy Father died from a “cerebral stroke”, followed by a “comma” and an “irreversible cardiocirculatory collapse.”
The Holy Father, who left the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome on March 23 where he was admitted for 38 days with bilateral pneumonia, has long dragged a series of chronic medical complications.
As read in the death document released by the Vatican, Pope Francis had suffered a previous episode of acute respiratory failure caused by a multimicrobial bilateral pneumonia, and suffered multiple bronchiectasis, arterial hypertension and type II diabetes.
These pre -existing conditions contributed to weakening their general health status and made their recovery impossible after stroke.
Death was confirmed by electrocardiotographic record, a clinical procedure used to certify the irreversible cessation of cardiac functions.
