Pope Francis appointed Mons. Luis Albeiro Maldonado Monsalve, until now Bishop Mocoa-Sibundoy, new bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos in the department of Antioquia (Colombia).
Mons. Maldonado happens in the position to Mons. Elkin Álvarez, who died for a cardiac arrest on July 8, 2023, with only 54 years.

According to the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC)after the death of the prelate, Fr. Luis Alfonso Urrego Monsalve interimly assumed the direction of the ecclesial jurisdiction made up of 29 municipalities, after being appointed diocesan administrator by the College of Consultants.
Santa Rosa de Osos is about 76 kilometers north of Medellín, in the Colombian department of Antioquia. It owes its name to the area, when it was discovered towards the end of the 16th century, it was called “Valle de los Osos”, by the many that were there.
Who is the new bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos?
Mons. Luis Albeiro Maldonado Monsalve is the new bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos. He was born in Fredonia (Antioquia), on January 20, 1958. He is 67 years old.
He entered the Main Seminar in Medellín and studied philosophy and theology at the Bolivarian Pontifical University of the same city.
He was ordained a priest on July 5, 1986. He obtained a degree in spiritual theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
He has played, among others, the following positions: Training in the Major Seminary of Medellín (1988 and 1990-1991); Spiritual Director at the Major Seminary, Professor and Chaplain at the Bolivarian Pontifical University; pastor in Santa Ana – Sabaneta (1999-2010); General Administrator of the Autonomous Foundation Priestly Father Arcila (2007), and Episcopal Vicar of the North Zone (2011-2015).
On October 15, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him a bishop of the Diocese of Mocoa – Sibundoy and received the episcopal consecration on December 3.
