DeSantis and his wife, Casey, are both practicing Catholics, and amid the chaos of politics, DeSantis says prayer has given him “calm.”
“I really believe in the power of prayer… it’s a kind of peace of mind that lets us know that, ultimately, we are in this world, but we are not of this world,” he said. “And every day, when you’re in this thick political terrain, they’re throwing things at you, shooting at you, all of this trying to throw you off course, to get you away from that true north. And I think just being able to pray, being able to be in touch with the Lord, it just gives you a way to know that none of that really matters,” he adds.
In 2021, Casey DeSantis was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, the couple had a 4-year-old boy, a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy.
