Hyperrealist figure of Christ based on the holy sheet arrives in Mexico

For the first time in Mexico it is exhibited The Mystery Manthe hyperrealist figure of Christ based on the scientific data of the holy sheet. The work, elaborated in latex and silicone, impacts his realism by representing the wounds that Jesus of Nazareth suffered during his passion.

The sculpture, which weighs approximately 75 kilos, reproduces in detail the rigor Mortis after the crucifixion, with slightly hunched legs and the hands crossed at the height of the pubis. Each feature, from the texture of the skin to the use of human hair, seeks to faithfully recreate the image of the man reflected in the holy sheet.

The exhibition is currently at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara as part of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the institution. It is open to the public from January 31 to March 31.

Álvaro Blanco, responsible for the exhibition, explained to ACI Press that this work is unique because “it is not the interpretation of an artist”, but seeks to reflect “possibly the artist who creates her, which is Jesus.” He stressed that the level of detail surprises visitors, because “the more you approach, the more real it becomes. Because the treatment is human, it looks like a human figure, you approach 20 centimeters and you look very clearly that the skin behaves like that of a human being, lunar, wrinkles. ”

In addition to the sculpture, the exhibition offers a historical and scientific journey on the Holy Sable, “from the points that have been studied, from art, from science, from archeology.”

Blanco explained that the exhibition raises a historical and scientific question by pointing out that “if Jesus is not on the holy sheet, we would be talking about the person has been sacrificed as Jesus was.” He added that “no character in history has had characteristics such as Jesus in his death and that they are fully compatible with the holy sheet.”

The impact of the figure has been significant among the attendees. Blanco said that “you are facing that first image of Jesus with his wounds. So, for people it is something very impressive, because in some way the story of Jesus becomes almost original in that image. ”

The organizers indicated that, after passing through Guadalajara, the exhibition could move to another city in Mexico, although the next destination has not yet been confirmed.
