The Institute for Research for Water Sciences is located on the Coast of the River in the South Dársena From the City of Buenos Aires, the project houses an institutional, educational and research program linked to water.
The search is that the building will take roots and it seems that it was always there. It is not about making a pastiche or adapting to the existing. But try to Mix the future with the past recognizing industrial heritage and establishing links with port architecture.
The proposed project seeks to be a statement regarding the status of the town in its different Material, environmental, cultural and social aspects.
In a context Where the local is molded by the global, but in which identity fulfills a leading role, adapts to idiosyncrasy, memories, technologies, resources and natures and rethinking the urban implications in the design of a building that is deeply rooted in the past of the place and proposes a vision of a possible future.
The piece responds in its conception to logics of mimesis and contrast With the immediate environment, understanding that any aesthetic quality is enhanced with the presence of its opposites.

The ones are recognized Pre -existing morphologies and in the face of an existing basement of a more tectonic nature, a heavy and consolidated stereotomic basement is opposed. Where one building retires, the other advances.

One of the central elements of the proposal in the interior space is the introduction of the concept of intermediate spacesthese result from a subtraction operation in the morphology that generates empty.

SA through these flexible or intermediate spaces, which the entire program is spatially linked. These not only illuminate and ventilate the plants but also relate them to each other, allowing Cross looks From the inside out and from one level to another, the visuals to the river from the circulatory spaces and from the program linked to the counter.

As a result of these operations, The interior space is multiple, complex, diaphanous and with urban wills because these empty begin to participate in the city.
Comment from the chair
Dolores Criscion manages to give character and presence to the project of the Institute for Research in Water Sciences, proposing dynamic and flexible spaces that respond to the needs of the program, while maintaining a coherent and appropriate image.

The Conceptualization of the project by Dolores gives the whole of a strong identity.

A clear differentiation between the basethat evokes the characteristic brick of the environment, and the upper research body, which rises ethereally over it.
The latter is distinguished by a system of Parasolswhich offers both visual and functional contrast.

From the functional point of view, a linear piece, coinciding with the annex building, defines the accesses and the connection between different programmatic volumes. This piece Mark the corner access from the urban plot and configure an urban closure to the river.
He central bodywhich houses the ladder and the elevators, organizes and facilitates circulation, allowing to clearly recognize the entire program.

In addition, each part of the project has been thought and carefully calibrated, incorporating Social interaction spaces At the transition points of circulations, which provides great value in educational buildings.
For all this, we consider that Dolores Criscione solves a program of High complexity with great simplicity and project quality, effectively integrating interior and exterior spaces, and creating intermediate situations with a clear urban intention.
