Pope Francis today appointed Mons. Juan María Huerta Muro, 62, as the new Bishop of Xochimilco, in Mexico City. Before this appointment, the prelate exercised for 13 years as a bishop of the Prelature of El Salto, in the state of Durango.
The announcement was made by the press office of the Holy See and communicated in Mexico for the Apostolic Nunciature through the Mexican Episcopate Conference, which, in an official message, expressed its best wishes for a “fruitful performance in its new plot Episcopal that the Lord has entrusted to him. ”

Who is Mons. Juan María Huerta Muro?
He was born in Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco on April 9, 1962.
He entered the seminar of the order of the minor friars, known as the Franciscans, where he studied his studies of philosophy and theology. In 1989, at 27 years of age, he was ordained a priest.
Later, he obtained the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Tijuana.
Within the Franciscan order, he was responsible for the province of western Mexico and subsequently was called to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Tijuana, where he assumed the position of Episcopal Vicar for consecrated life.
In 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him a prelate bishop of El Salto.
