The supply of Chinese cars continues to grow in the country. It began in 2008 with the arrival of Chery and currently there are about 15 brands operating in the local market.
DFSK is one of them. It is not a pretty name or easy to remember, but as a reference it must be said that it is one of the three largest manufacturers in the Chinese automotive industryand which was born in 2003 after the merger of the Dongfeng and Sokon firms.
In our country, its history seems like a Chinese tale. The brand has two representatives. It arrived years ago from the group Chery Socma to position itself in the niche of urban delivery trucks (minitrucks), and since last year expanded the business with Corven -one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the country- to enter one of the most attractive segments: that of SUVs.
The one chosen to inaugurate this new stage in Argentina was the DFSK Glory 580a medium SUV that is characterized by offering space for seven peoplegood level of comfort and for having one of the cheaper prices for a vehicle of its characteristics.
The only version available costs $ 36.600.000a little above the $32,900 (equivalent to $35,000,000) of the cheapest variant of the Jetour X70 (2024 model) and well below other segment rivals such as Jeep Commander (from $59,819,000) and Peugeot 5008 ($63,890,000), although it must be clarified that they are vehicles more modern and technologicals.
As we said, the Glory 580 was the first in a series of launches that the Chinese brand will carry out in the future. The next stage will be launched in March when its younger brother is launched Glory 500which will compete in the compact SUV category. Although that’s another story…
Sought by large families
In the local market the offer of models with three rows of seats is scarce. And that is the card that DFSK played with this Glory 580.
Because it is a vehicle of almost 4.70 meters long Its design is sober and harmonious, although it seems a little dated when compared to the style of its rivals.
Three rows of seats and capacity for seven people. The real strong point is inside, which offers a huge space and highly valued features for those looking for this type of vehicle.
One is that the second row seats have a slider to be able to move them longitudinally manually, an option that, in addition to allowing more space for passengers in that seat, facilitates access to and exit from the third row of seats.
The seats in the third row are reserved for children or people with small builds. The good thing is that since they are individual, one or both can be folded down to get more cargo space in the trunk (375 liters).
Taking into account its price it offers good comfort equipment: eco-leather upholstery, sliding roof and a multimedia system with a 10” touch screen that, as the only con, requires a special application to pair Android phones. A curiosity about this system is the equalizer of the audio equipment, which you have to be a sound engineer to understand.
Interior with materials of good perceived quality. Leather upholstery and multimedia system with 10″ screen.Where it falls short is in technology, because does not offer any driving assistance system (ADAS); devices already present in lower segment models.
On the other hand, the mechanical assembly is made up of a 1.8-liter 130 HP engine and a CVT transmission that, to our taste, has little taste when it is asked to react.
Maximum power is achieved only at 6,000 revolutions while total torque is achieved above 4,000 revolutions. The CVT box doesn’t help much either when you step on the accelerator, the engine shoots up in revolutions (also fuel consumption) and the noise invades the cabin. On the other hand, in urban sections or driving at cruising speeds, driving comfort is much more serene and pleasant.
The rear seats can be moved forward and backward, and are folded down to access the last seat.In turn, the suspensions are soft and calibrated so that uneven streets and terrain do not affect passenger comfort.
